Written Notes

This was an unexpected surprise because even though it was completely bricked through, the nose and flavors were focused, complex, balanced and gorgeously long in that 'power without weight' fashion that the finest burgundies are capable of delivering in spades. The nose is airy and complex and while completely tertiary, not without elegance and the middle weight flavors are sweet and delicious, all wrapped in a finish that is balanced, sappy and strikingly long. A great wine by any standard but especially in the context of what was 'only' a good vintage. Perfectly stored examples will drink well over the next 20 years as the balance is absolutely impeccable.

Michel Couvreur Negociant bottle, fill 4cm below cork. Very pale garnet, orange rim. Volatile touch, strawberry jam, evolved, some leather, refined nose. Getting better and better for 25 minutes in the glass, then a slow deterioration. Gorgeous acidity, pure, extremely elegant and balanced, more fruit sweetness with air on the palate as well, sweet and sour, long length. 93
